Gastronomy of Perigord

You are here in the country of gastronomy. Truffles, duck breast-confit, foie gras, goat cheese, sarladaise potatoes, cepes, Monbazillac, Bergerac, Pécharmant … are some of the Périgord specialties that will amaze your palate.

The gastronomy is so rich and famous in the Dordogne that it has become over the years a commercial and tourist argument of weight. And while there are still genuine small producers, the trend has also unfortunately opened the door to unscrupulous commercial opportunism, on the part of both producers and restaurateurs.

In this context, we have neither the legitimacy nor the pretension to give notes or good points to a particular manufacturer or restaurant and we do not especially have the will to denigrate anyone. On the other hand, we know and / or have tested a number of them and can advise you.

To begin, as part of the activities of the campsite, we integrate Perigord gastronomy in 3 ways:

1. The gourmet visit on Monday afternoon. We offer a free tour of a goat cheese factory, the Bortolin cheese factory, small Perigord producer located 10 minutes from the campsite. On the program of the visit: meeting with the goats, explanatory visit of the cheese factory, screening of a small educational film on the manufacture of goat cheese and, of course, free tasting of goat and sheep cheese (with the coup de rouge who is well …).

2. Free tasting of regional products at the campsite on Monday evening. Meet at 19:00 on the terrace of the bar with two producers: Laurent Colet, authentic little duck producer (rillettes, terrines, foie gras, dried duck breast etc.) and Château Haut Pezaud, producer of Bergerac and Monbazillac wines.

3. The Perigordian evenings. Every other Thursday, in July-August, Michel offers you a Perigord menu (terrine as a starter, confit of duck-sarladaise potatoes in a dish and nut cake to finish as a dessert) worked only with Laurent colet products, our duck partner. Quality guaranteed for this complete menu at a very reasonable price.

Then, as far as Perigord gastronomy as a whole is concerned, the Dordogne is doing a lot to promote its gastronomy.

First of all there are visits and museums centered on gastronomy.

There are also markets. Traditional markets of course, but also gourmet markets. Rather nocturnal (19:00 – 23:00), they offer you to taste on the spot the products you buy. Very popular here, these markets with a very friendly atmosphere, are often accompanied by a band. More information on traditional and gourmet markets by clicking on the link below.

And finally, of course, the restaurants. We propose here to advise you 2-3 addresses near the campsite on a range of varied budget and with whom we sometimes have a partnership.
