Visiting castles and the most beautiful villages during a romantic stay in the Dordogne
For a romantic stay, what could be better than wandering through the castles and flower-filled gardens of the Périgord Noir, enjoying a bucolic atmosphere and creating romantic memories together. For a short stay, here are the main visits we recommend among the many must-see villages of the Périgord:
Beynac
Among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, you will find the village of Beynac and its fortress overlooking the Dordogne River. It is a perfect place to spend time with your partner. The superb Beynac castle, built in the 12th century, rises to impressive heights. From the top of the castle, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the Valley of the Five Castles. This is the perfect place to discover the region with your loved one.
Beyond visiting the castle itself, a guided tour of the medieval village is also available, allowing you to explore even the smallest streets of Beynac. This tour also offers the privilege of visiting the church, which is usually closed to the public.
Limeuil
Limeuil is also one of the great medieval towns of character in the Dordogne: stone alleyways, Panoramic Gardens (an exceptional setting), numerous art workshops, and more. This village, also listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, boasts a cultural and natural heritage well worth discovering, even during a short stay.
Limeuil’s romantic charm lies without doubt in its panoramic view over the surrounding countryside and the confluence of the department’s two famous rivers, the Dordogne and the Vézère.
During each of these visits and walks through the streets of these typical Périgord towns and villages, take the opportunity to enjoy a romantic moment together over a good meal. Limeuil, as well as the many other charming villages of the Périgord, offers several delicious traditional restaurants for a gourmet moment with your partner.
Visit a must-see romantic destination: the medieval town of Sarlat
Sarlat is certainly the most famous medieval town in the Périgord. It is an essential discovery if you are coming to spend a romantic weekend in the Périgord Noir. Whether you choose a self-guided or guided visit, discovering the town will provide a wonderful experience: its listed buildings, medieval streets and squares make for a memorable and enriching visit.
You can also stroll through the streets of the town with your partner. Together, you can admire the façades of monuments and historic buildings steeped in history. The town boasts nearly 72 monuments — plenty to keep you busy during your romantic weekend.
The Sarlat belvedere is a panoramic lift built against the bell tower of Sainte-Marie Church and offers a truly original experience. Once at the top, the fully glazed walls allow you to admire Sarlat in 360°. You will be pleasantly surprised by the landscape, the streets, the golden stone walls and the slate roofs.
For a romantic and gourmet moment
You can also take advantage of your stay to enjoy truffle toasts together, accompanied by a glass of champagne. If you wish to spend an evening for two while tasting local flavours in an elegant setting, then the Sarlat area remains your best option. It offers the advantage of exceptional gastronomy to discover during your romantic weekend in the Dordogne, such as foie gras, Périgord duck confit, Périgord salad or even truffle omelette.
Camping accommodation: romance and relaxation in the heart of nature
During your romantic weekend in the Dordogne, the choice of accommodation where you stay is essential. For short stays for two, camping is not always considered. Yet, during a stay in the Dordogne, it remains an ideal option for fully enjoying the richness of the lush natural surroundings.
That is why, at La Lénotte campsite, we have chosen to offer accommodation for couples that meets your needs:
- A small 20 m² canvas bungalow for a camping spirit with a minimum of comfort thanks to its kitchen area and shaded terrace

- A Tit’home, halfway between the two previous options: the tent spirit for the kitchen area and the comfort of a mobile home for the sleeping area and sanitary facilities (without shower).
Accommodation with space adapted for a romantic stay in comfort and in the heart of nature, thanks to the peaceful and green surroundings of our campsite. And for camping lovers, you can of course enjoy one of our pitches to set up your tent for the weekend.
