In October, it is marked by cooler spells that are still very comfortable for outdoor activities such as exploring villages, many of which are listed among the most beautiful villages in France. During this season, several activities are available to you:

  • You can, for example, go on a hiking trip to discover the region’s wildlife in its autumn colours while breathing in the fresh country air;

Visiting Dordogne in winter

The winter period, between December and March, is a particularly cold season, with temperatures sometimes dropping to around -10°C. January is the coldest month of the year, with an average minimum temperature of 4°C, but temperatures only rarely fall below 0°C and the generally low wind levels in the department make winter walks quite pleasant.

It is also worth noting that during this season, snow falls for around six days. It is fairly common in the north-east of the department, but rarer in the south. If you choose to visit Dordogne in winter, you can set off to discover the sanctuary of Rocamadour, or visit museums and the famous Castelnau-Bretenoux castle. You can also take the opportunity to visit the Gramat Animal Park, which remains open all year round, allowing you to avoid the crowds of tourists seen during the warmer seasons.
