Swimming and beaches in the Dordogne: where are the best spots?
Swimming along the developed riverbanks during your stay in the Périgord is a must-do activity. With the high temperatures during the summer season, being able to cool off is greatly appreciated. Thanks to the many dedicated swimming areas in our beautiful region, you will be spoiled for choice when it comes to enjoying a refreshing day by the Dordogne during your holiday.
Many beaches have been developed along the Vézère and Dordogne rivers, and local tourist offices will be able to provide information, particularly about supervised swimming areas and the water-based activities available at the different equipped sites.
For our part, we have three beaches we recommend as a priority, whether for their proximity to the campsite or their bucolic charm, not forgetting their lush natural surroundings — perfect for enjoying a refreshing moment with your loved ones.
Where can you swim in Dordogne near La Lénotte campsite?
Keep the campsite’s nature-focused spirit by enjoying the natural swimming areas around the site. Spend time with friends or family cooling off while discovering the many water activities offered by the developed swimming areas along the banks of the Dordogne and Vézère rivers.
The closest to the campsite: Coux beach
Plage du Coux
24220 Coux-et-Bigaroque
Coux beach is located on the right bank of the Dordogne and is only 3 km from La Lénotte campsite. You will be welcomed by a large shaded car park where you can leave your vehicle before accessing the equipped beach and enjoying the swimming area.
This pebble beach is supervised, ensuring your children’s safety and allowing you to enjoy your days by the water with peace of mind (while still keeping an eye on them!). In addition, the site offers full facilities with picnic tables, sanitary amenities, and the sale of cold drinks during the summer season.
The most accessible: Pont de Vicq beach
Plage du Buisson-de-Cadouin
24480 Le Buisson-de-Cadouin
Not far from the Pont de Vicq bridge from which this developed beach takes its name, and located on the left bank of the Dordogne, this spacious and green swimming area, whose water quality and clarity attract tourists every summer, is a must during your stay with us.
For everyone’s safety (especially young children), this is a part of the Dordogne where the current is gentle and the water depth increases gradually — a significant advantage for family outings. This benefit is reinforced by professional supervision over part of the equipped area during the summer season.
For those who might tire of relaxing and swimming, many activities are available at the Pont de Vicq beach area: canoeing, fishing, and places to eat with shaded picnic tables, not to mention the must-visit Guinguette du Pont de Vicq. This riverside restaurant allows you to enjoy traditional regional dishes or simply stock up on cold drinks.
Located only 10 minutes from the campsite, it has a large car park at the entrance when arriving from La Lénotte. We therefore strongly recommend that you take the time to enjoy this spot during your stay with us.
The most charming: Bac de Sors beach
Plage du Bac de Sors
24480 Alles-sur-Dordogne
A green riverside area located on the left bank of the Dordogne and facing the charming village of Limeuil (one of the most beautiful villages in France), which we also highly recommend you visit during your stay in the Périgord.
Bac de Sors beach welcomes many visitors every summer looking for freshness and relaxation while enjoying quality time with family or friends. Its main charm undeniably lies in its view of the limestone cliffs — a truly scenic moment in the heart of nature.
This pebble beach also offers several shaded areas for picnics or simply for relaxing. We also recommend not arriving too late in the day, as its exceptional setting and relatively small size make this developed beach very popular with holidaymakers throughout the summer season.
Moreover, this beach is only 15 minutes from the campsite: it is one of the most beautiful beaches in Dordogne.
We hope our suggestions will appeal to you as much as they do to the campsite team. Of course, if you have any additional questions during your stay, we will be delighted to help and share more tips about activities to enjoy in the Périgord.
