A 3-star campsite in the South-West

A 3-star campsite in the South-West

Known for its quality of life and gentle pace, the South-West is undoubtedly the region of France offering the most beautiful open spaces and incomparable wild nature. In this context, camping has naturally become the essential accommodation choice in the South-West and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region to fully enjoy everything our Dordogne department has to offer. Fully immersed in the wild nature of the South-West and providing a warm, family-friendly atmosphere, 3-star campsites stand out for their comfort, quality of welcome and simplicity.

Discovering the South-West region

If there were one word to describe the South-West region, it would be “nature”. Indeed, this magnificent region offers beautifully preserved sites and wild countryside of incredible authenticity. The climate is extremely mild and inland, away from the coast like here in our campsite in the Dordogne, the air quality is remarkable. Whether you come from a city or another region, tourism and camping holidays in the South-West will delight you. Thanks to its respect for nature and the land, camping has logically established itself over the years as the region’s essential accommodation choice.

Heritage, towns and villages of the South-West

And if nature were the only attraction in the South-West, we would already be satisfied — but there is much more! The Dordogne boasts an extraordinary heritage!
The number of castles to visit is impressive. They are stunning, and most of them have been fully restored. There is of course Castelnaud Castle, known for its interactive charm and activities for children. But we should not forget the gigantic fortress of Beynac and its fortifications. And what about the Château des Milandes and its magnificent gardens? Long occupied by Josephine Baker, it has now become a museum in her honour. Not to mention the castles of Biron, Commarque, Bridoire, Hautefort… and many other must-see tourist sites in the south-west of France.

But how can we talk about the South-West without mentioning its villages? The region alone is home to 10 of the 159 Most Beautiful Villages of France, mainly located in the Périgord Noir. There is of course the famous Sarlat, which needs no introduction. The beauty of this town has made it the Dordogne’s leading tourist destination. Yet its reputation sometimes overshadows other magnificent villages without which the South-West would not be the escape destination it is today: Belvès, Domme, La Roque-Gageac, Monpazier, Castelnaud-La-Chapelle, Beynac-et-Cazenac, Limeuil, Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, Saint-Amand-de-Coly and Saint-Jean-de-Côle are all listed villages of outstanding beauty.

The South-West: an ideal destination for your holidays

The South-West is a very complete region and if you are open to the idea of not staying by the seaside, the Dordogne will offer you far more nature, calm, relaxation, history, culture, sport and gastronomy than the overcrowded seaside resorts of south-west France in summer.

The South-West has indeed preserved its wild landscapes, and its forests, rivers, cliffs and valleys provide incredible viewpoints.
But the richness of the South-West is also found in its history and culture. Prehistoric history first, with sites such as the Lascaux caves or the International Centre and the Museum of Prehistory in Les Eyzies. There is also medieval history, with its many castles open to visitors.
Sports enthusiasts will not be left out either: the South-West offers everything you need. Walking, mountain biking, canoeing, treetop adventure parks, caving, climbing, hot-air balloon flights, golf, fishing, quad biking… are just some of the many activities you can enjoy during a holiday in the Aquitaine region.

The gastronomic richness of the South-West

Let’s not forget gastronomy! The South-West is THE land of gastronomy. The region is rich not only in culture and heritage, but also in culinary traditions. Many specialities originate here, and more precisely in the Dordogne. A land of duck, truffle and walnut production, you can delight your taste buds with 100% South-West products such as duck confit and magret, foie gras, goat’s cheese and all walnut-based specialities. And you can accompany all this with Bergerac wine and the famous sweet Monbazillac.

These protected-origin specialities can be enjoyed in the many restaurants and inns of the Périgord. You will also have the opportunity to taste them at La Lénotte campsite, where we regularly organise tastings during the summer with local producers from the Périgord, helping you discover (and love) even more the gentle lifestyle of the South-West!

A 3-star campsite with swimming facilities: essential for holidays in the South-West

It is hard to imagine going camping in the South-West in summer without choosing a campsite with swimming facilities, given how hot it can get. Even though at La Lénotte campsite, the first riverside beach is at the end of the road, only 3 km away.
The term “aquatic area” might be a bit strong for La Lénotte campsite. Strictly speaking, yes, we do have one since there is a swimming pool and a small paddling pool next to it. The main pool is a good size (just over 100 m²) and, importantly, it is heated!

Family holidays: many activities available

  • A children’s playground with swings, trampolines and everything our little ones love;
  • Indoor activities in case of bad weather: table football, pinball and a free library area;
  • Sports fields for both children and adults where we organise activities all summer long;
  • The La Lénotte campsite mini-golf: the ideal family activity for the end of the day after exploring the Dordogne’s heritage and enjoying the many must-do nature activities of south-west France.
